18 Jul Edition 2 – Nuclear Power Plant regions in NSW and Victoria
In this Edition 2 of the Australian Nuclear for Climate website we explore:
- The number of nuclear power generators required to meet Australia’s projected electricity demand in 2050. These demand projects are sourced from the Australian Government’s Bureau of Resources and Energy Economics “Australian Energy Projections to 2049-50” produced in November 2014.
- The number of nuclear power generators that could supply 80% of our light vehicle power in 2050 assuming the use of battery storage. We also make a project for heavy vehicle transport assuming 40% is electrically powered by 2050.
- We make projections for the number of nuclear power generators to provide some 70% of our our manufacturing sector assuming 70% electrification of the current fossil fuel consumption.
We then add up the number of 1.1GW nuclear power plants required to meet these needs and apportion them to the various regions of Australia in areas called “Regions of Interest”.
At this early stage we have concentrated upon New South Wales and Victoria which are shown in Drop Down tabs under “Site Selection” Future editions will include the remaining states and territories. The ACT is included in the calculations for NSW.
